Diary Entry 82: Barbara Santee, Ph.D., 77 (Tulsa, OK 1955/56)
Barbara Santee (1937-2018) shares her story of seeking an illegal abortion in Tulsa, OK in the mid-1950s. She also discusses her experience as a founding member of MORAL (Modern Oklahomans for the Repeal of Abortion Laws), an underground abortion service that helped 3,000 people access abortion care in Tulsa, OK before Roe v. Wade, and her work with NARAL in Oklahoma. She begins her story by reading a short piece from the memoir she is writing that explains how she first learned about abortion.
*The pills Barbara mentions in her story were quinine and ergot pills.
